Currently we are headquartered in Tangkoko because Tangkoko is one of the most endangered Conservation Areas of Sulawesi Island where this area still keeps endemic animals  that are still relatively high including birds, Sulawesi blac crested Macaques, cus- cus, tarsier, bats, etc ..

The Tangkoko-Duasudara nature preserve is a small (7495ha) but important nature preserve. It was established in 1919 by Dutch colonial rule under the name “Tangkoko Batoeangoes natuur monument). In 1978 the governor over North Sulawesi added 500m from the beach of Tangkoko-Batuangus to the sea to create a 12km long marine preserve. Human activity damaged and disturbed some 1250ha of the Tangkoko-Batuangus nature preserve and for that reason the function of this part of the preserve area was changed from preserve to tourism area to become the Batuputih-Batuangus tourism area in 1981. Earlier (in 1978) the status of the  Duasudara protected forest was upgraded to become the Duasudara nature preserve.

Together all of the described areas are nowadays known as the Tangkoko-Duasudara nature preserve and the Batuputih-Batuangus tourism areas. The four areas for one system without any internal borders from roads or farms. The main purpose and function of these four areas are; biodiversity preservation, research and education, nature recreation, and to function as the water catchment and supply area for about 104.000 citizens and the industrial sectors that support the regional economy of Bitung.

Even though the size of the Tangkoko-Duasudara nature preserve (including the Batuputih-Batuangus tourism areas) is small compared to other preserve areas in Indonesia, its existence as nature preserve is very important as the last evidence of the tropical forest that covered Minahasa and Bitung.
